Kogi Government, Sightsavers Launch Life-Changing Hydrocele Surgery Initiative

By Stephen Adeleye  Lokoja, Sept. 10, 2025 In a significant step towards eliminating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Kogi, the State Ministry of Health, in partnership with Sightsavers, has successfully conducted a targeted surgical intervention to treat hydrocele. Hydrocelea is a painful and stigmatizing condition caused by lymphatic filariasis.  A total of 40 patients received free hydrocele surgeries at three zonal hospitals in Idah, Kabba, and Mohammed Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, Okene, restoring dignity and hope to the affected individuals. The programme was coordinated by Nurse Albert Alabi, the State Coordinator for NTD Control Programme, through the State Hospital Management Board (KHMB) under the leadership of Dr Ayo Olayemi. The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja at its emergency  meeting on Thursday, 4th September, 2025, approved the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. The approved Academic Calendar as released by the office of the Director, Academic Planning indicates that the resumption date for the new academic session for new and returning students (except those on SIWES) is Monday, 15th September, 2025 while those on SIWES will resume on Monday, 8th December, 2025. Registration commences on 15th September, 2025 and will run till 10th October, 2025, while late registration which attracts a penalty fee of five thousand naira (₦5,000) will run between 13th and 17th October, 2025. Kogi Govt's Healthcare Transformation Gets Commendation from National Assembly

Amos Magaji, gave the commendation on Monday in Lokoja at Kogi Deputy's Governor's office during the team's oversight visit to the state, to evaluate the utilization of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).
