Kogi United FC Celebrates 31st Anniversary With Win Over Nurudeen Football Academy, Abuja
The Kogi United Football Club has emerged victorious in a thrilling friendly match against Nurudeen Football Academy, Abuja, winning 2-1 at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on Sunday evening.
The match, which attracted football fans and sports lovers from within Lokoja metropolis, was part of activities to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Kogi United Football Club.
Kogi United FC scored their first goal on penalty kick in the first half, while Nurudeen Football Academy equalized immediately.
In the second half of the match, the Kogi United FC through teamwork and display of sportsmanship secured the win over the Nurudeen Academy, Abuja.
Speaking at the end of the match, the Team Manager of Kogi United Football Club, Mr. Michael Itodo Olachene praised the efforts of the Players of the Club in winning the match, noting that the match was one the toughest friendly matches the club has played lately.
According to Mr. Olachene, "Nurudeen Football Academy is an academy that we know for a very long time. A few years ago, they came to this place and they beat us. We went to Abuja and we defeated them. And the tempo of the game today, it was very, very interesting. I'm happy that we were able to win the match.
"It's a good boost to the team because you know we've been suffering, we've been under NLO. That is our current position and we're preparing the team to see how we can excel from NLO to NNF And since after the screening, we have been playing so many friendly matches but this is one of the toughest. The toughest. Especially in the capital city of Lokoja.
"During the proceedings, we were happy with the way the fans came out to support the team. I'm pleased with the determination of the players. What message do you have for the players in future tournaments and matches? It must be continuous winning by the special grace of God. That is the word for the players and the technical crew".
The Head Coach/Technical Adviser of Kogi United FC., Folabi Ojekunle said he was impressed with performance of the players particularly the outcome of the friendly match.
"It's a good test for us, you understand, because for most matches we've been playing so far, for the past, like, nine matches we've played since I resumed duty July 7th, this is the most test match for us. And it's a good one.
"We had a lot of benefits because the match gave us a chance to know what our lapses are, where and when we are having problems, who and who are the players, pairing and stuff like that.
"Then secondly, it makes me to change the formation of the game, you understand, before we could be able to beat them. You could see that in the first half, they tried to match us, they outplayed us, but in the second half, when I brought in the substitution five minutes into the first half, those boys came in to stabilize the game. These guys are very quick on the ball. We have to slow the ball down in the midfield, then we'll get to the final thought, then we'll finish off.
On his plans for the team, Coach Folabi said "we're really planning very big and we're planning very big like the programme for the club itself and we're looking forward to our league next year which will go for nothing but promotion. This is exactly what we're really working on. We're going to make sure that we promote the team this time. That's exactly what we're working on and that's what we're going to achieve".
The Captain of the Club, Sadiq Abdulrasheed said the match was a lovely one.
"It's nice. It's very interesting. At least we try our best and we get the winning. And we pray by inshallah we'll do our best to get victory in all our matches".
