SECURITY: OLAMABORO LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN ENGAGES OFANTE OGUGU COMMUNITY, PLACES BAN ON RECEIVING NEW FULANIS
In a bold and proactive move to address rising insecurity and the influx of Fulani into Ofante Ogugu community, Executive Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government, Hon. Ameh Williams, on June 20th, visited the community and Declared Zero Tolerance for insecurity and Criminal Activities in the area.
The high-powered security and community engagement meeting attracted personalities including traditional rulers, women and youth leaders, security operatives, the Fulani and Hausa leadership in Ofante, political office holders, and other relevant stakeholders from Ofante, Adupi, Emodu, and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Ahmeh Williams noted that the purpose of the visit was to chart a new course for ending security threats, especially the recent incidents of kidnapping and farm invasions.
The Chairman, after listening to series of complaints from the communities, declared a ban on receiving new visitors including; Fulani, Hausa, or anybody pretending to be a farmer, stressing that anyone caught violating the directive or aiding unlawful settlements will face legal consequences.
He also announced a community-wide curfew from 9pm to 6am and called for a comprehensive census and profiling of Fulani, Hausa and Igbo residents in the area.
The Chairman also set up a committee to monitor all security matters in Ofante and revert back for necessary action and promised not to allow insecurity to thrive in the area.
Hon. Williams said there is No-Free Zone For Insecurity In Olamaboro Local Government, urging traditional rulers & other community leaders not to Undermine the efforts of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo especially in the area of security across the State.
According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has invested so much on securing the state and Olamaboro in particular, hence the need to join hands together to secure their land.
He assured the people that insecurity would find no hiding place in the area under his watch and called on the Security agents to fasttrack their quick response to security threat to the people.
Hon. Williams expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his steadfast leadership and security efforts across Kogi State and emphasized the need for urgent formation of local neighborhood watch groups in all the villages and warned against spreading unverified security information on social media, which could incite panic.
In a remark, the Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent Apeh Jacob, warned Fulani leaders against entrusting cattle to underage herders, while the DSS Boss in Olamaboro reminded the community that security is a shared responsibility and timely information is critical.
On his part, the Kpalekor of Ofante Ogugu, Chief Paul Ibrahim commended the chairman for his unrelenting commitment to peace and safety, calling for more security presence in the community due to its boundary with neighboring states including Benue and Enugu.
He also raised concerns about Fulani herders destroying farmlands and pleaded for strict control.
